God has a plan for you

God Has an Amazing Plan for You

I sat at the computer, awestruck by the instructor’s presentation on embryogenesis, the process by which a fertilized egg becomes a human being. The process of meiosis produces unique egg and sperm cells which unite to become a one-celled organism called a zygote. Then this one cell divides and produces every cell type, tissue, organ, and system in the human body.

But then the instructor said “how unlikely are you”? By his calculations, the possibility of your exact DNA comprising you is 1 in 4×1022, which is approximately the number of stars in the observable universe.1 By the world’s standards, the probability of your father meeting your mother, then getting together, and then the exact sperm cell fertilizing a certain egg cell to create you is astronomical.

However, the Bible contradicts this view. There are no accidents with God. He knew exactly what DNA was necessary to create each of us. God had a plan for you even before you existed.

You are not an accident

Science says humans are here by accident, but the Bible says otherwise.

David praises God, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139:13–14, Psalm 139:16 NIV)

God is omniscient (all-knowing). He is the mighty Creator of all things, including us (Isaiah 44:24). God knows every person before their birth, and He watches over us throughout our lives (Isaiah 46:3-4). As Christ followers, He chose us before the creation of the world (Ephesians 1:4-6).

Rick Warren states in his best-selling book, The Purpose Driven Life, “Long before you were conceived by your parents, you were conceived in the mind of God. He thought of you first. It is not fate, nor chance, nor luck, nor coincidence that you are breathing at this moment. You are alive because God wanted to create you!” 2

Accept the way God made you

God does not make mistakes. He made you exactly how He wanted you to be. He chose your physical characteristics, your natural talents, and your unique personality. When you engage in negative self-talk, you are criticizing God’s creation!

Paul writes, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10 NIV). The Greek word poiēma translated handiwork, workmanship, or masterpiece occurs only twice in the New Testament. It means “a work of creation.” We are God’s masterpieces!

God has a plan for you

Why are you a unique creation? Because God has a plan for you. Remember, He prepared our good works in advance (Ephesians 2:10). Embrace how God formed you to fulfill His plan. He created each person for a purpose.

For example, Jesus journeyed to find the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s Well because He knew she would be there (John 4:4-26). Despite her unsavory past, her race, and her gender, He chose her as the first person to tell He was the Messiah (John 4:26). This unnamed woman fulfilled her purpose by telling everyone in town about Jesus, the Savior of the world (John 4:39-42).

Conclusion

Learning about cell biology and embryogenesis reinforced my belief only God could create the intricate human body. Therefore, He must have a purpose for creating us. What unique purpose has God created you for?
