Secrets of the sunset

What are the fascinating secrets of the sunset?

My sister loves watching the sunset. In fact, the first thing she asks when visiting a new park or city is “where is a good place to watch the sunset?” (I admit—sometimes I think she has enough pictures of sunsets.) Even if it’s cloudy, she cannot miss the sunset because tonight might be perfect. She says every sunset is unique and clouds produce spectacular sunsets. What are the fascinating secrets of the sunset?

Jesus died and was buried in the ground just like the sun at sunset

Jesus. The Light of the World. Snuffed out and buried in the ground, just like the sun disappears into the earth at sunset. But we know the sun will always rise again! So did Jesus. He rose from the grave on the third day so that we may live eternally with Him.

Just like clouds create magnificent colors of the sunset, God uses our imperfections to highlight His glory

God created us. He knows all of our imperfections, but he loves us and forgives us for our sins, anyway. In fact, our failures, flubs, and faults highlight the glory of God because we do not deserve forgiveness.

We are saved from death only through the grace and mercy of our loving God.

The sunset signals a new day, full of promises and new beginnings

In contrast to the solar calendar, the Jewish calendar day goes from nightfall to nightfall. The day is over when the sun sets and nightfall is the beginning of the new day. Let the sun set on your old life and begin a new life. Repent, be transformed.  Receive deliverance from disobedience, defeat, and discouragement. Transformation happens every day, just like the sunset.

The Bible says, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:2, NLT).

Conclusion

Each evening, the sunset displays the marvelous wonder of God’s creation. In addition, the secrets of the sunset are revealed.

Jesus, the Light of the World, was buried as the sun falls to earth each day. But he rose from the grave so that we might live.

Our imperfections, just like the clouds at sunset, magnify the power of God’s mercy. God offers his gift of salvation, even though we do not deserve it. Each day at nightfall, a new day begins. Accept this wonderful gift from God. Today. It is never too late.
